Binge eating disorder, formally referred to as compulsive overeating, is newly classified as an eating disorder since 2014.

SYMPTOMS/WARNING SIGNS
  • Sense of lack of control while eating
  • Binge eating episodes are marked by significant distress followed by shame, guilt and depression
  • No compensatory behaviors are used after the binge episodes
  • Eating large quantities of food
  • Eating until uncomfortably full
  • Weight gain/fluctuation
  • Secretive eating
  • Hiding food
  • Low self-esteem
  • Social isolation
